About

I’m a freelance food writer, home economist and food stylist which basically means I cook…a lot! I’m a self confessed feeder; not content with just feeding friends and family I set up a mobile wood-fired pizza company, That’s Amore! Pizza Co. You can find me at events and festivals throughout East Kent.

I love to cook for work and for pleasure and after being asked on Instagram for recipes of my foodie snaps I decided to create this blog. I also suffer with anxiety and depression and find that working through a recipe and creating something beautiful can be a real tonic when the anxiety takes hold, I like to call these my mindful bakes.

Don’t be fooled by the name of this blog isn’t just about baking, I hope to fill it with breakfasts, lunches and dinners that can help keep your body and mind your healthy too, what I like to call my ‘Good Mood Food’. A balanced diet full of fruit, vegetables and good fats is essential for everyone, especially those who struggle with mental health issues.

Finally I want to add some anecdotes and stories about the challenges of suffering with anxiety with the hope of breaking down the barriers and creating a conversation. Yes that’s right, this blog ain’t all about me! I want you to create and share my recipes too, us the hashtag #BakingYouBetter on Instagram and twitter. Maybe this way mental health can stop being such a taboo subject. So if you’re with me lets start baking you better.

How are you not the size of a house? I couldn’t resist over indulging if I baked and cooked all the delicious things you make πŸ™‚

I love your blog! I suffer from anxiety, depression, and a couple of other mental disorders and cooking/baking, from scratch, has always been a huge passion of mine. It calms me and it is so fun! I love what you’re doing with this ❀ Do you happen to have a Youtube channel? I have one all about my anxiety…”Living with Health Anxiety”. I would love to mention your blog on my channel…would that be okay?

    Hi Lucy

I love your blog. I’m a keen baker but definitely not up to your standard! πŸ™‚

I’m looking to make some homemade food gifts for christmas. Are there any recipes you recommend? I have looked at making flavoured oils but recipes online state they only last a week. Is this correct?

    Thank you x

    1. Hi Jade, thank you, very kind. I would recommend using the BBC Good Food website for gift ideas, I used to work for them and so I know they always test their recipes. You can keep flavoured oil for a lot longer than that as long as you sterilise the bottle, be careful will garlic though as it gives of a chemical if left raw, I always roast mine before infusing in oil. I’ll be adding some Christmas gift recipes to the blog soon! X

    Hi Lucy,

I’ve followed both your Instagram accounts for ages and LOVE the look of your salted caramel semi naked cake for my mums birthday. I live in Hampshire so not the easiest to get to Kent. Do you ever work with a company for deliveries or are your bakes pick up only? Thanks very much! Hayley

    1. Hi Hayley, thank you! I am afraid I can’t send the cakes by post, no courier can guarantee that the box will be kept upright and it’s just too risky it would arrive and be crushed into bits! Sorry about that. Lucy
